Successful seaweed harvest at the Danish Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm!

On a sunny june day, project partners and stakeholders within the WIN@Sea project met up in Klintholm, Denmark, for a day of wind farm sightseeing, seafood tasting and fruitful discussions about the co-use of space within wind farms.

The project recently achieved the significant milestone of a successful seaweed harvest. Although the seaweed yield was relatively low compared to yields that are typically expected in more saline waters, we are gaining invaluable knowledge on the challenges and opportunities related to sharing ocean space between different industries. This will undoubtedly help to facilitate similar initiatives and potential upscaling efforts in the near future.

The participants in Tuesday’s event had the amazing opportunity to see seaweed farmer Mads Hecter in action up close and get the latest insights from project lead Annette Bruhn, while being surrounded by the impressive turbines of Danish Kriegers Flak and the white cliffs of Møns Klint. To top off the day, all participants enjoyed a delicious fish soup filled with fresh mussels from Limfjorden and sugar kelp from Kerteminde, prepared by Kattegatcentret.

The event received extensive international media coverage.
